What are missed calls costing your business?

Every unanswered call to a local business is often a prospect who simply dials the next name on the list. This calculator puts a monthly and yearly figure on that leak — using your numbers, not industry averages — so you can decide whether it is worth fixing.

Estimate only. Calculated from the figures you entered, assuming missed prospects who are reconnected would convert at the close rate above. Actual results vary with your market, response speed, and offer. This is a planning figure, not a guarantee of results.

How the number is calculated.

The formula is deliberately simple and fully transparent — no hidden multipliers, no industry data baked in. It chains the five values you entered:

  1. Missed calls per month = inbound calls per week × % missed × 4.33 weeks.
  2. Missed prospects = missed calls × the share that are genuine potential customers.
  3. Recoverable customers = missed prospects × your close rate on prospects you actually reach.
  4. Monthly revenue at risk = recoverable customers × your average customer value.
  5. 12-month projection = monthly figure × 12 (a flat projection; it does not model seasonality or growth).

The model assumes a missed prospect who is reconnected behaves like any other prospect you reach — converting at your normal close rate. That is an assumption, not a measured outcome, which is why the result is presented as revenue at risk rather than guaranteed recovery. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.

A missed call doesn't have to be a lost one.

The leak above closes when an unanswered call triggers an instant, automatic response — before the caller has time to dial a competitor.

Text back in seconds

An automation detects the missed call and immediately texts the caller — acknowledging them and asking how you can help. See it in the missed-call recovery demo.

Turn it into a booking

The same message can include a booking link or route the conversation to a person, so an unanswered call becomes a scheduled job instead of a voicemail. This is core to Lumen's business automation work.

Questions about the calculator.

How does this calculator estimate lost revenue?

It multiplies your missed calls per month by the share that are real prospects, then by the rate at which you close prospects you actually reach, then by your average customer value. Every figure comes from the numbers you enter — there are no built-in industry assumptions.

Why focus on missed calls specifically?

For phone-driven local businesses, a missed call is often a prospect who simply moves on to the next listing. Unlike a form lead, there is usually no record to follow up. Reconnecting quickly — for example with an automatic text back — is what keeps that prospect in the conversation.

Is the result a guarantee of what I will recover?

No. It is an estimate of revenue at risk based on your inputs and a simple recovery assumption. Actual results depend on your market, response speed, offer, and how consistently follow-up happens. Treat it as a planning figure, not a promise.

What is missed-call text-back?

An automation that detects an unanswered call and immediately sends the caller a text — acknowledging the call, asking how the business can help, and often offering a booking link. It turns a missed call into a two-way conversation instead of a lost lead. See the live demo and the automation service page for how Lumen sets this up.

Does Lumen store the numbers I enter?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is transmitted to Lumen or any third party.
