How We Built Lumen's Website & Local SEO Foundation

A transparent look at how we built our own site — a custom-coded platform organized around search intent, with Central Valley local pages, technical SEO foundations, and a growing set of free interactive tools.

The challenge

We needed a website that could do several jobs at once: earn local service visibility across multiple Central Valley markets, carry a solid technical-SEO foundation, host educational resources and interactive tools, and scale as we add content — without the bloat, thin pages, and keyword cannibalization that sink most local-business sites.

Our approach

We hand-built the site with a modern, custom-coded stack and organized it around search intent rather than a flat list of pages. Reusable components and a shared schema layer keep it consistent; data-driven systems generate location and industry pages from a single source; and a deliberate internal-link structure ties services, guides, and tools together into one ecosystem.

This is our own website — not a client project, and we are not our own client. Everything described here is implemented in the live site and verifiable in our public codebase. There are no client results, testimonials, or metrics here — just the real implementation.

The strategy

Search-intent architecture

Separate page types for each kind of search — commercial services, local city pages, informational guides, and interactive tools — so pages support each other instead of competing for the same terms.

Local market pages

Distinct, genuinely different pages for the Central Valley markets we serve, rather than one generic page trying to rank everywhere.

Technical SEO foundations

Canonical URLs, an auto-generated sitemap, structured data, and clean semantic markup built in from the start — not bolted on later.

Linkable tools & resources

Free, genuinely useful tools and guides designed to be worth linking to and to introduce our approach.

Internal linking

A deliberate network of contextual links connecting resources, tools, and service pages into one ecosystem.

Outcome

There is no client analytics dataset here — this is our own site — so these are qualitative outcomes of the build, not measured performance claims:
