Twilio

Programmable text messaging and calling — the engine behind missed-call text-back.

Lumen integrates and supports Twilio. We are not an official partner of, certified by, or endorsed by Twilio.

What Twilio does

Twilio is a communications platform that lets software send and receive SMS text messages and phone calls programmatically. It is the infrastructure many businesses use to add texting and call handling to their own systems.

How Lumen uses it

Lumen integrates Twilio to power missed-call text-back, lead alerts, and appointment reminders. When a call goes unanswered, an automation can fire an instant SMS from your business number; when a new lead arrives, your team can be texted right away. We configure the number, messaging logic, and templates as part of an automation build.

Business use cases

  • Automatically text back missed calls within seconds
  • Send appointment confirmations and reminders by SMS
  • Alert staff to new high-priority leads in real time
  • Two-way text conversations that route to the right person

Example workflow: Missed-call text-back

  1. A call to your business line goes unanswered.
  2. The automation detects the missed call event.
  3. Twilio sends the caller a personalized SMS acknowledging them and offering help or a booking link.
  4. Replies route back to your team or CRM so the conversation continues.

Limitations

  • SMS to US numbers requires carrier registration (A2P 10DLC); we help set this up, but approval is controlled by carriers, not Lumen.
  • Per-message and per-minute costs are billed by Twilio based on usage.
  • Deliverability depends on carrier rules and recipient opt-in; texting requires consent and an easy opt-out (reply STOP).

Security considerations

  • Messaging credentials are stored as secrets, never in client-side code.
  • We build opt-out (STOP) handling and consent capture into texting flows.
  • Phone numbers collected for texting are not shared for third-party marketing.
